I really like Baylor and Iowa State to do some damage...

to peoples' brackets.

Kentucky should separate into 4 teams and put a team in each region then play a scrimmage for the Final 4.

i had baylor in sw16, iowa st losing to smu in next round. smu is losing to ucla. gotta love this madness.

i had to make two brackets in each pool. one with kentucky winning and another with them losing. they're just too good. they could beat nba teams.

Solid pick with Thompson. I was wondering when he was going to fall off the board. Had him WAY higher than that.

Thx Hitman. Was prepared to grab Hoffman at 17, but found that Kolek was still on the board. Four picks later and Hoffman was there. TJ surgery was 10 months ago already.

Digging Monk's pick of Miguel Castro. He's climbed the Jays ladder pretty quick. Wonder if they consider him for closer now that Sanchez is starting? Was hoping he'd slip to the 3rd round.

I'm really digging the Adrian Rondon pick by Jay. Love the swing. Probably my favorite among all the hitting prospects I looked at -- unbelievably quiet and compact for as young as he is. Reminds me a lot of Yunel Escobar's swing. I almost grabbed him at 27, but thought it was early yet.

Like the Cisco pick. I grabbed him late in another draft, so I thought he was flying a little under the radar. Not sure if he will stick at C, but the bat will play in the majors.

Here's a Google docs spreadsheet showing the current status of the draft, including who picked which players, who is done picking, and how many draft picks do the others have remaining.

I think Badgers and Freese each had an amazing draft. Also like what Venice was able to do getting hitters and Czar's pitching.

I don't have an answer for you, the rules don't specifically say "must be signed BEFORE the draft" though it should. Getting anyone to vote on possible rule changes is like pulling teeth and it causes me much frustration.

I think the culture is changing around here to be fair though. This draft was by far our best yet. This is the most encouraged I've been by this league in a long time. I think we are in a good spot.

I think this is a rule that we should propose and discuss.

Please be patient with us as we look at issues like this. We are stepping into this role for the first year as Commishiii and as we come across stuff that isn't spelled out, we will work to address it as many of these rules were not written or put in by us. This appears to be one of those rules. Also, the influx of Cubans makes this a bigger issue. 5 years ago, there weren't all these signings mid-draft like Moncada, Lopez, Olivera, etc.

So, I guess the short answer is that it isn't addressed in the rules currently, but is a loophole that maybe we should address in the future.

Thanks for the good work so far. The start of this season is going well.

I would agree that the rules should probably state "signed BEFORE the draft," but it would make sense, too, that any tweak to the wording would be implemented for the following go 'round.

From what I can tell, the question earlier in this thread about players having to be signed before midnight of draft day was affirmed by Penny. Maybe because this was always the practice, if it wasn't specifically spelled out?

Looking forward to the start of the season!

On the point about how quick the draft went this year, absolutely. Here's the proof statistically:

total of 87 picks in 2013
total of 86 picks in 2014
total of 82 picks in 2015
The 2012 draft took 9 days, Mar 16 to 24, 2012.
The 2013 draft took 11 days, Mar 15 to 25, 2013.
The 2014 draft took 8 days, Mar 17 to 24, 2014.
The 2015 draft took 5 days, Mar 19 to 23, 2015.

Ah, I was wondering if it was written someplace. My understanding was that they had to be signed as well, but it wasn't explicit in the official rules (but was stated earlier in the draft by Penny) so it's something we need to address before next draft?

So, here is the conundrum, it wasn't in the rules, but had been stated by Penny pre-draft, so there is a record of those being the guidelines that we were all following. I was all for letting it stand, but I didn't know that Penny had stated at the beginning those guys were ineligible, so I think we need to discuss.

At least the good thing is that this isn't a Moncada we are talking about, but we need to be 100% clear going forward.

It was commonly understood, and your right Czar the draft did go well, I'm venting some frustration here. It's amazing that we have a million rules and still this stuff happens, that's why it has to be so detailed. This is a very complicated league and everyone needs to be aware of what's going on so we can properly run this thing. One day the rules will be foolproof, until then....watch the League Rules and Improvements and please PARTICIPATE!

Who would have thought the last pick in the last round would turn out to be so contentious! Drama in the Smack Shack!

Seriously though - great job by all 3 commissioners running the draft and taking over for the upcoming season.
