Zero surprises on those first 6 picks. My order was slightly different but same 6 guys.

Reed still would've been my top pick, but it wasn't even on my radar that Snell was unowned. That was shocking.

Yeah, I had Snell ranked a little ahead of where he went. When you told me your target was still there, I thought it was Snell. I probably would have gone Reed first as well because of that power, but Snell is ahead of him on most lists.

Nice pick at 16 with Contreras.

Thank you. I'm hoping his gains stick. High average, high contact catcher with elite BB% sounds good to me, even if he is only a 10-15 HR guy.
I just didn't want to wait 5 years for a HS kid.

Kinda glad you scooped up Contreras. I had him ranked higher, but I secretly wanted an excuse to draft Nottingham's power.

I own Nottingham in my other dynasty, so I'm hedging there a little bit. I try not to invest too much in one guy and spread my risk across my three dynasties. Sometimes it bites me in the ass though.
I passed on Sonny Gray in here since I had drafted him in my other two leagues. Gray fell way way too far down the board and I wish I had taken him. I drafted Josh Bell and Javier Baez over him and I'm still waiting on those two.

I like the Reed pick. He's been a helium riser.

Thanks. There is a lot to like about the guy. He's looked good in ST so far, too. Figured I'd take a guy close to the majors now, as I pick next in the third round. Then I can look at more long term players.

Re: Discussion Board
Keep in mind that this year there are two Cody Reeds -- both pitchers, both rising in stardom, one with Cincinnati, the other with Arizona. Hitmen take the one that is ranked higher by most pundits, the one at Cincinnati. The other remains available so far.

Yup. I made sure that I noted the Reds guy, not the Dbacks guy because of the potential confusion.

Also I propose during this draft we have a league vote on going to 15 minor league players owned. I am in a league with 30 teams that each own 15 minor league players. There are definitely enough prospects.

Re: Discussion Board
I don't think anything is going to change mid-draft. Some guys are already done picking or made trades based on 12 milb guys. I would not have cut a guy if I knew I was going to get 3 more picks. We can discuss for next year though. My other two are 18 and 15 deep as well, but it just means the wire is healthier in here.

THE KILLERS wrote:R.I.P. DEVASTATOR DYNASTY LEAGUE (2006-2015). Was great fun in its heyday.
too bad. that was a fun league. DDL forever!
i've been mulling the idea of starting another pay league. similar to SSD, but with R/HR/RBI/SB/OBP/SLG/AVG and
W/QS/ERA/WHIP/SV/HLD/K/9
these categories try to balance out counting and percentage stats to avoid streaming and emphasize starting pitching. still not sure about W though....
this new league would also add costs to keeping players each year. for instance, the {$1,$4,$7,$10,…} idea, which allows you to keep any player on your team, paying $1 more for one of them, $4 more for another, $7 more for another, etc, until you decide to stop keeping additional players. i haven't worked out a team budget yet, but something small enough that there is a decent turnover of players each year. i figured managers could also trade 'cap space' each year as well, just like draft picks and waiver positions.

What would you propose for the number of voting places per year? 3 extra next year, for a total of 9. But what about after that? 8 one year, 7 the next, or some other pattern?

Re: Discussion Board
Hi Penny, I don't understand the question of what your talking for voting places. I am just asking we have a vote this spring to see if in 2017, we expand minors rosters to 15 spots. The subject was brought up during last season. I would be in favour. I'm asking while we are all gathered here for draft we settle it with a vote. Still six round draft, everything would stay the same except you would have 15 MiLB spots instead of 12.

Re: Discussion Board
Greg, to vote on something we need a clear, concrete proposal. You've proposed we expand the minor league roster to 15. Today the roster limit is 12, with 6 slots being available to draft new players into each year. When you expand the rosters to 15, how are you proposing that the selections per year be changed?

Re: Discussion Board
They are not. Just an addition of 3 spots to 15. No extra work.
I propose that the amount of Minor League Roster spots increases from 12 to 15 for 2017, prior to the 2017 draft. All other protocol and procedures regarding the draft remain the same.

remysox wrote:why did the system just replace COANGELO with coangelo?
Haha, Coangelo was one of the original owners. He was so s-l-o-w during the draft that everyone got pissed off and the guy quit mid-draft.
Dude wouldn't respond to texts and then he would show up to the draft room and leave without making the pick and was taking the full 24 hours for each pick and this was when we were trying to do the original draft of players and MiLB guys, so it was going like 35+ rounds.
It was our very first crisis in this league. When that guy quit, his buddy that had talked him into the league got pissed and also quit, so we had to replace two owners that demanded their money back right in the middle of the draft.
So, somebody replaced the word "s-low" with COANGELO.
Man, that first bunch was awful in here. It's amazing to me that this league survived.
