    The Draft

Post by Guest on Thu Feb 12, 2009 4:52 pm

    Gentlemen,

The draft starts tomorrow (when? I don't know. I guess when Smartfishies makes their pick.) and there are some ground rules we need to cover and some help that you all can provide.

    1. You cannot draft a player that does not have a contract with an MLB team or who has any MLB experience, even if it's just one at bat or one inning pitched.
    2. At midnight tonight (thursday Feb. 12) any unsigned player--in particular any unsigned Japanese player--is off limits for the rest of the draft. That means that if Gyro-Ball Murikami signs after today, nobody can draft him, and he will become a free-agent in the waiver wire pool.
    3. Sometimes it's hard figuring out who had that cup o' joe in September, so everyone should really use mlb.com to see if the player you want meets all of our requirements before making their selection. I think it would also be extremely helpful if you would check the guy picked before you, to also prevent restarts and other assorted snafu-s. If we all take a little extra time, I think we can keep this draft running smoothly.
    4. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to PM everybody at once, and we haven't heard from quite a few of our league-mates, so if everyone would alert all the players they know directly that the draft is starting and also when they are due to pick, that would be very helpful.
    5. Even though there are teams that pick back-to-back and the beginning and endings of rounds, you will not be able to make a selection to start a round until we post the order for that round. This will give us time to make sure that all selections were legit in the previous round before moving on.
    6. If anyone would like on-deck calls/emails, or "it's your friggin' turn" calls/emails. I'd be more than willing to do that. Email or PM me your information, and I'll try to keep track of that. I'm sure Ray would be up for it as well.

Finally, and this isn't about the draft, per se, but Commish Chris (Hu Jintao) is currently sans computer, so he's going to be hard to get a hold of. Hopefully it will works itself out before the end of the draft, but just be aware that it'll only be two of us trying to moderate the draft and that I'll be leaving for Cincinnati via automobile on the 20th of February, so that might also COANGELO things down.

Good luck and please feel free to hit me up with any questions you may have.
